What's a Registered Dietitian?

A Registered Dietitian is a food and nutrition expert. The "RD" credential indicates a practioner has completed an undergraduate degree in nutrition, 1200 hours of supervised nutrition practice, has passed a standardized national examination and completed 75+ hours of continuing education every five years.

Registered Dietitians are the only nutrition professional authorized to prescribe Medical Nutrition Therapy in the United States. RDs are the nutrition experts in every imaginable food environment: healthcare insitutions, corportate health programs, foodservice operations, nutrition product promotion and university and research settings.

Utilizing the nutrition, healthcare and foodservice expertise of an RD is a proven strategy for maximizing health outcomes, minimizing cost overruns and assuring regulatory compliance.
